BMW Roundel wondering

I love racing frist off. Second i was tring to do something that normally isntdone. Turning a 84 528e into a racer but no i am not so sure what to do any more. Any advise, i feel bad about abondaning her but i dont know what i should do now. I got to say for an 84 with 189,143 miles she still rides as smooth as ever

Yeah, it's going to be tough to make that type of car a great racer. Do you have an idea what/where you want to race - low budget / high budget?

e30 325is and e36 325s make good/economical racers.

There is spec e30 racing, where one of the objectives is to keep racing affordable. One way to save a bunch of money is to buy a used race car - much cheaper than building one.

How good would an automatic transmisson be? I have always driven a manual so i dont know what the posiblities of one are

A couple of issues I can think of off the bat would be the extra loss of power to the rear wheels due to the automatic and less control of what gear you'd be in and for how long.
