E46 M3 Track Tire Pressures
After four years of taking my 911 to the track, I recently scored a E46 M3 and am looking forward to taking it to my first track day Friday April 13th, so I hope the day bodes well.
Does anybody have advice on tire pressures? The car is shod with street tires, (Toyo Proxes T1Rs). I will be at New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS) which is a fairly short tight circuit. The car is bone stock, no modifications. I have no clue where to begin, my 911 I run 36 psi front, 39 psi rear hot which seems to work pretty well, but the 911 is a rear engine car and likes the different pressures front and rear. Thanks Bill

In general, try to keep your hot pressures at 40 or below.
Depending on the ambient temp I would start at anywhere from 30-36 degrees cold in ambient temps from 90 - 45 degrees. And you'll probably want to start out at the same temp all around even if you are running the stock staggered setup and then adjust from there, usually decreasing your front pressure slightly.

I'd love to hear yor thoughts on how M3 handled compared to the 911, I've been tracking my '86 3.2 for a few years but maybe picking up a 3 series.
Adjustments in techniques required due to the differnt balance of the cars would be of intrerest to many here. |
