Accelerator cable
 

I have a 1972 BMW Bavaria. The accelerator cable shed and broke. The cable comes from the auto transmission in a very tough spot. I was advised to remove the transmission pan and I would be able to connect a new cable. I have taken the pan off but it didn't help much the cable enters somewhat away. I had purchased a Universal cable from Pelican. At present I am lost on what to do. I am thinking maybe somehow splicing the old cable back together. The manuals that I have show in detail the gas pedal cable but very little on the acc. cable.
