RE
I'm a new member and I am also contemplating on purchasing a X5-- I'm currently doing my research on these SUV's-- so far no major recalls or problems.

I had one x5 4.0 I think its the best one out there BMW calls it an SAV. Never had any problems with. Sad to see it go, but I will replace it soon with the 4.4...

Don, I've got a good friend who's a BMW/Porsche dealer parts manager. He's always said good things about the X5, little problems noted. However, he just got back from a big national
Cayenne intro for parts and service people and is raving about it. So, maybe wait a few weeks and drive the X5 and the Cayenne and make a decision. I do know that Porsche used the X5 as a benchmark in their development. At first they purchased a Jeep Cheroke and installed their engine and drive-train in it before they had a body to test. They soon dumped the Jeep and concentrated on the X-5 for their development. Either way, you won't make a mistake.
