Slippery Seat

I've been out enjoying my new-to-me r11s as much as possible. Snowing today Hopefully will get an Indian summer. Maybe its the material BMW used for the original seat or partially the shape but it seems awfully slippery. More so than my K bike or any other bike Ive ridden. I know, this sounds like a minor, annually-retentive complaint, and I guess it is. But does anyone know of a product one can spray on the seat or the seat of riding pants to lessen the slipperiness? Maybe it's a matter of just getting used to it.

Velcro your butt in place. Seriously I don't know how anyone rides a stock seat, it's the most nut crunching thing short of a pissed off ex. Sargent, Wunderlich & some custom builders are all worlds better. You can send it to Sargent & they will rebuild it to your specs with better cover material. Or do as the surfers & use sex wax.

On the R1100S you're constantly sliding into the front.
On the R1200S it's a plank.

Many have tried different seats through the years.

I now like my Wunderlich Low. Before I had a Corbin. To me the Corbin was too wide and hard. But for others it is perfect.

You just won't know what's best for you until you try some... Just need to find someone selling one.

I've had my R11S since January, absolutely standard everything (only 8000km now). The seat is atrocious, always sliding me forwards, insufficient padding and my pillion slides forwards also exacerbating my issues. I'm planning to take it in for a custom job, extra foam inside the thighs and remove the slope from the rear of the riders position. I'm a skinny guy of 75kg and no padding of my own. Can any of you share your own seat mod suggestions? Pillion advice also appreciated since I haven't sat back there myself.

Try an '05 BCR seat. It's taller but they took the nut-cruncher saddle contour out. Much better than the earlier models but not quite as good as a custom.

I also have a Corbin that came with the bike when I bought last month. I have ridden it a few times and have not been overly impressed. This one has relatively square edges on the sides and an ass pocket that is too far back for the way I ride. Maybe I just need to try it a few more times. I have had other Corbin seats and either the shape was not right or they were too hard. I think it's like bicycle seats: you just have to try different ones to find one that fits. And cost, material type, or visible shape doesn't determine if it's a good seat. I have an old bicycle that I've installed on all my new bikes over the last 25 years. Nothing I've ever tried is better. I need to give this new Corbin another try, as well as trying other after market seats. Seems like one of the favorites here is the Wunderlich.

The nut crunching design of the stock saddle is infamous. That being said, you want to be able to dance on the saddle left to right, so you don't want it to be sticky. The only real solution is an aftermarket seat.

Still chuckling it was only a couple of weeks ago the OP was saying he wouldn’t be bothering with a Sargent or Wunderlich as the stocker was fine for him

As has already been said buying an aftermarket seat period is a hassle.

Ok. Go ahead and laugh. I've been there before. But for the record I didn't say the stock seat was uncomfortable. I only said that the curved sides and the slick surface makes me feel like I'm going to slip off when I move to the inside of the turns. So, with that said, I'll give the Corbin a few more tries, and we'll see if it works better, but i think the Corbin has other undesirable characteristics. So it will probably be another aftermarket seat for me.

I cannot understand how a touring bike, albeit a sport touring bike, could come from the factory with such a terrible seat. Did the person who designed it rid the bike to more than an hour?

Just repeating what i’ve posted before the cheapest option is to find a photo of a Wunderlich seat and take your stocker to a seat recoverer all you need is a piece put at the front to raise and ideally recover with a different material.

I rode around for years on such until A Wunderlich turned up for sale,the problem being aftermarket parts become more scarce by the the year.

Their were some good photos on here for seats and I dare say Photobucket has done for those i’m Sure some of us can put some more up if you decided to go that way unless you can find a secondhand option.

Anyone got any decent photos of a Sargent for the OP for no other reason they are not as rare and maybe an option.

If you are a DIY type person here's my seat. My factory cover cracked allowing the foam to deteriorate. I cut out the bad foam, added a jell insert, reformed the top in dense carpet rebond and added an inexpensive cover from eBay.
