R1100S Rear brakes: inner pad question

I just replaced my rear tire and went to put the wheel on I noticed there’s no piston on the inside of the rotor, just a pad sitting there. And my pad almost fell out. It’s on retained by the pin at the back. There appears to be no support the the pad on the inside front of the calliper. You just place it into the body and hope it stays?

Don’t want to ride it until I’m sure it’s installed correct.

Are there any pistons on either side?

With how well they work must be something in there. I can pretty much slide the rear at will. Good thing the fronts are hand controlled 'cause my foot has all the delicacy of a sledge hammer.

To answer the initial question, if I remember right the tabs at the back lock or more like position the pads in place inside the caliper to keep them from falling out when mounted. I am however too lazy to go look to confirm my feeble failing memory.

Yeah there’s pistons on the other side I was just surprised none on the inside (the one closest side of picture). However I seem to remember the pads are backwards in this pic. The pin goes through the rear of the pad.

The thing that concerns me is that there is just one pin that keeps them in place. The other tab only seems to sit on a support bracket. When the wheel is off they pad was just hanging in the breeze by the one pin

There is the pin from the back, and the spring thing #7 that pushes down on the pads to keep them from rattling or squeaking.

The brake pad that does not have a piston pressed against it, sits on a ledge or two ledges.
Come to think about it, both pads sit on a ledge or two.

The 2004 R1100S brake caliper might be different than your year brake caliper.

Well went out for a ride and everything seems fine. Besides how much rear brake do you really need?

Google "single piston caliper."

Lots to learn.
