Battery Tender

Stupid question probably but I never used the BMW electrical socket to hook up a Battery Tender. I just bought another S and the guy included a Battery Tender with the BMW male end on it, the bike has a female socket and goes up to the wiring loom under the seat.
I use Battery Tenders on all my other bikes but have the Battery Tender supplied pigtail directly connected to the Battery. It's a small two terminal connection/plug-in with a fuse.

It doesn't matter which you use they do the same thing, charge the battery. I have both on mine because I forgot the plug on a trip & didn't have a way to charge my dead battery so I installed the 2 pin tender line also.

On the R1100S bikes, the Battery Tender will work either way. Direct to battery, or through the power outlet.

With the R1200S, the CANbus is trickier. So, on my R1200S I have the little Battery Tender pigtail connected directly to the battery. Otherwise, you need the BMW specific version to plug into the power outlet.

What happens under the seat? Where does it go from there

I was hoping I could power things from the BMW female socket which is hot and batter voltage can be tested with the ammeter probes. The owner of motopump said the connection needed 10 or 15 amp fuse in line. Is there one in that loom under the seat. I was curious why the wires led away from the battery rather than toward it. Sorry if derail.

My socket on the left side of the bike was wired in under the seat. the main wiring loom under the seat had a wire connector and my socket wiring was connected into it. I've actually removed my socket from the bike. It's a female connector with a brown wire and a red/white wire.

No idea who or what motopump is but he's wrong. I can't imagine what you'd be plugging into it but that amperage is pretty high. People have been using that plug for all kinds of things from phone charging to heated suits for ages with zero problems. As for where the wires go strip it down & see, but they go to the battery however they're routed. It's always hot not switched. If you feel the need for a fuse just splice it inline on the positive line to the socket.
