Fork oil quantity

Been working on the 04 BCR. Got the Ohlins reinstalled and took it out for a test ride. The front forks seemed to have a stiction problem. Took them apart and found everything slides well and is straight. Also there was 160ml of oil in the leg. Looking over everything I noticed these legs don't have the displacement tubes. So looking at past threads it seems at some point BMW did away with them and changed the oil quantity to 470ml. This is not ever confirmed anywhere in the manuals but seems right compared to my other R1150R manual. Also in the past threads it says it might be better to just measure down to the oil height but never gives what the correct height should be, anyone know??
Also when do you put the air-valve back in the top, with the front tire off the ground or weight back onto it??

I also found this in my search.

All is cleaned up and back together with the 470cc of 10wt. fork oil/leg. What a difference, the forks are actually moving up and down without and problems. Took it out for a short test ride and it's great to have suspension working properly.
I set the air valve/plugs in with the front tire off the ground, seems fine. I figure if that's the wrong way I could always crack them open later.
Taking it out for a longer test later today, I want to see how the rebuilt Ohlins are set.
Next will be the tires, if I can make up my mind.

Good to hear you got it working properly The service book I have (Clymer, not that good a manual) does not give specific info for BCR but they list all R1100s as 160ml, not that I believe it.
