Hello,
Looking for a shop in the NJ or PA area that can work on a 2004 R1100S Motor. Timing chain issues. |

I did, but's an old bike so I was hoping to find someone who knows the older bikes. The ones you listed are pretty much dealers and I don't want to deal with a dealer on old bike.
Thanks |

The bike might be starting to get old, although it's the last year of the original R1100S run, but the engine configuration is still fundamentally the same as many that I'm sure they still work on. R1200GS, RT's etc. I'd just talk to them. Unless you don't want a dealer.
Or, you can attempt yourself as somewhere in this forum will be information on whatever the issue is.

I don't know about around you but around me the BMW dealers won't work on anything older than 10 years, small shops will though.

There's much speculation as to the reasons, from the practical (no training) to conspiracies (forcing people to upgrade). Take your pick. And it's not just BMW.

Any repair that involves engine removal and disassembly at a dealership will equal or exceed half or more the monetary value of your R1100S.
Even at an indy shop the labor might not pencil out. If you need an "04 engine, please see my listing in the For Sale section. It includes a transmission but only if you want it. If you can find an indy shop to swap it in for you it might make it more affordable than them doing the whole case splitting thing soup to nuts. I bought it thinking I had a timing chain tensioner problem but was able to swap the cylinders and pistons myself instead, in-frame. PM me for argie-bargie if you're interested. |

This is a little late but I just saw your question. I have a 2004 R1100s. I had a burnt exhaust valve and had to have it worked on. I used Cross Country Cycle (in Metuchen). This work was done around 2 years ago. When I approached them they never told me the bike was too old to work on. Since I have gotten the bike back it has been running wonderful. I have 2 other friends that have all their service done there.
