Number of '02 Boxer Cup Prep Models?

Anyone know how many Boxer Cup Prep (not Replika) models were produced or where I might find that information? Just a curiousity that came to me the other day. So far no luck doing a search here or on Google.

I haven't pushed them on her too much so far. The third member of out party, Bill, did some filming throughout the trip and sent me a dvd with the footage, so we've looked at that a little more. But since you mentioned pictures, here are a few of many that were taken.

That's Repoe himself atop the sign.

Stop at an overlook as we were descending down into the valley.

One of the many bison we saw in Yellowstone.

After seeing numerous "Open Range/Livestock" warning signs throughout the trip we finally encountered the real thing on our way back into Colorado. At least the dung in the road was at the exit rather than the apex of the turn..

Repoe and Bill at Capital Reef NP, UT.

Northern rim of Grand Canyon near dusk.

The highest priced gas we saw (in Death Valley), but fortunately we already had plenty in our tanks.

Garage
It's no big deal, but the little tunnel picture above isn't Capitol Reef National Park. I think it's by Zion.

Technically, there is no '02 Boxer Cup Prep

2002 was the first year of the Boxer Cup. It is only a Boxer Cup.

In 2003, there were two models offered, a Boxer Cup Replica (fancy paint job) and a Boxer Cup Prep (identical to the previous year's Boxer Cup (only now called a Prep).

So that means only one year (technically speaking of course) of true, Boxer Cup production. Everything else is only a replica or a prep.

All the R1100S models are mechanically identical, correct? Excepting items like heated grips, lowered bars, ABS, wider rear tire, short torque arm, etc.?

Basically, yes. Unless you consider the twin spark or revised transmission or transmission mounts a mechanical difference.

Sport suspension too. The yellow paint on the springs is much more sporty..

Exactly. There's a reason real Ferraris are Fly Yellow. Or Jeep Wranglers. Yellow is the new black. Black is the old red. If they would have made a yellow R1200S, I would have gotten it.

Oh wait a minute. They did. Shoot. Oh well. Black is good. For bodywork, anyway. Almost as good as silver. Silver was the old yellow.

What day is it?

Not road kill- narcolepsy. The good news is repoe wakes up refreshed and ready for the next 200 miles as chipper as the first 400.

maybe we are splitting hairs, here, but there was no replica in 2002...that was the first year of what was called the boxer cup prep, in silver, without ABS, a seat cowl, or a centerstand. after that replicas and tweaks on the prep lpatform were made in 03 onward.

in fact, the prep now in swatz'a possession was the 1st prep to be taken delivery from a dealer by me enroute home from bike week. they had one dazzled up on show at bmw of daytona.

That is good to know. I always wondered why the used bike value guide in MCN only referenced an '03 Prep model. So the '02 models were the first of the Boxer Cup family... sounds even more exotic.

CKCarr - you are right about that photo being in Zion, not Capital Reef - thanks for pointing that out. I left my digital camera at home on the trip and had to rely on my traditional 35mm. Had the images put on cds rather than prints and they came back to me a bit out of order.
