Falling Leaf Rally Oct. 10-11-12

OK Brad Mathison, Dee Jones, Bill Mundis, Jim Eickiman..... Lets see how many more we can get hooked on one of the best riding opportunities in the central United States!!!

Falling Leaf Rally put on by the Gateway BMW riders.

So many people come to Arkansas looking for the best roads... I live here and go to Missouri when I want to get the best riding.... Lots of sweeping curves, Clean litter free roads, fantastic scenery, and the best bunch of riders you will ever meet.

So anyone planning to be there?

Bill, Greatly looking forward to it!!! Any of you guys from the east or west for that matter that haven't ridden this area should take advantage of this opportunity if at all possible.

Falling leaf has campfires for entertainment instead of Live-Bands.... so be prepared to sit around and BS till late-thirty.

You know Jakarta (Paonia) was scheduled to play at both the Repub and Demo conventions this year. We really liked them, but the faithful generally just didn't feel the need to funkafize. I'd hate to think BMW riders as a class aren't up to it. However, did you see the Repubs trying to dance at the big show ? Made Elaine look really good.

So one of you posting gurus start a roll call and see who we muster!

BMathison 09-20-2008 05:51 AM

I will be there with bells on. Since I got talked in to going once, I'm hooked.
Will probably arrive mid-day Friday with a few others in tow.

dee jones 09-20-2008 02:29 PM

Sound like others are excited about the Falling Leaf also. We"ve got a couple of riders that will be making the trip this year. Dan Green on the Pelican board will be making the journey this year, Craig Hunley a big Ducati nut will be riding a 650 BMWGS that might shock a few folks, don't worry he can keep up. Craig had to be detuned for the trip, reasons to be explained at another date and time.
Hopefully we will hook up with WSWARTZEL down in Razorland for a guided tour of Arkansas finest roads on the way to Potosi. Looking forward to seeing everyone again!! The maps of the back roads are being studied as the departure date of October the 6th is rapidly approaching.

Bill;
A friend and I are planning on being there this year, meeting my brother and other friends coming from Minnesota, Look for a '07 GS Adventure riding with a '85 K100RS from Texas, we love the falling leaf rally and should be camping "up on the hill" in the back.

wswartzwel 09-22-2008 03:02 PM

Thats where we camp too. Sounds like we will have quite a few PP members there this year!

Dee Jones is bringing a group up from his area... Dan (R111S) is bringing a group down from Illinois, and there will be the handful of regulars.

Bill - You need to get there early and stake out Pelican Island.

wswartzwel 09-23-2008 10:53 AM

Well.... I am leaving Conway Wednesday... But I am taking some guys on an Arkansas tour.. The long way to Potosi. ;)

This looks like it might be a mess. Someone better call a surveyor. Potosi's gotten so big we've now got claim jumpers.

Seems like I remember someone heading for the motel the last time there feet got cold? But I could be mistaken. Oh yeah that bike didn't have saddle bags.;)

Hey Bill...I need to clarify about the group I'm riding with. We're going to the HSTA Friends of Freddie Rally first (03-05OCT) and then ride around in MO/AR the following week. Some or all of the group may head back home before the Falling Leaf. If that's the case I'll be riding into FL2008 solo.

Maybe I'll be able to keep Brad M in sight this year since I've got Wilbers and I'm spooning on some new Z6s this weekend...well maybe not, Brad is so fast! on the R1200S.

On another note, I've just bought my first GPS (HP iPAQ 310) and hope to make some routes to travel around Potosi before leaving home. The FOF Rally usually hands out some good routes too.

Looking forward to meet other Pelicanites there! I pray that everyone has a safe and enjoyable ride this year.

wswartzwel 09-23-2008 07:52 PM

Dan,
Brad Mathison raced for years... He rides pretty tame on the street... you will be OK. We may see you guys on the road. I will be giving Dee and his friends a tour of AR. on Wed and Thursday.. then heading up to Potosi on Friday.
