OT - Healing
Finally turning the corner for good gang. Going back to work in February. Still dealing with some really unusual pain here and there, but its getting less and less everyday. Woohoo!
Gonna start looking for a new bike probably in April when I know I can take one for a real test ride. I should also have recovered from some of the spending on the G35 by then. I'm telling you folks, if you get laid up from something and you know its going to be long term, cut up your credit cards, or disconnect your internet service ![]() Thanks for all the thoughts and comments gang. Oh yea, ended up over on the Religious and Politics forum reading one Roger had moved (which is absolutely fine by the way). If you haven't been over there, you should check it out. Those car guys are weird. Entertaining to say the least, hehehehehe. Our forum is the bestest, with the bestest people. Probably cause we ride.

That is fantastic! Congrat's on your back... and that you are going to get back on a bike soon too.
After reading this... I am now running the road to Mammoth Pools overlook in my head thinking" GS GS GS I need a GS for next year!" I can't wait.

My left testicle is aching (funny because the right femoral artery is where the recent incision was).
it could be worse. You don't have aching nutz ![]()

For the type of riding we do, the GS (standard) is the much better bike, you still have some 200 miles of range and the bikes is a good 50 pound lighter, about .8" lower and a little more agile. Main difference being the height (as mentioned), the tank capacity and some protective gear that comes standard on the Adventure... amongst which are the two additional flaps behind the extra-large windscreen (located just behind the screen and flanking the instrument cluster area) which are intended to help reduce buffeting in the "kidney area." Seems to work. Also standard on the Adventure but optional on the "regular" GS are hand protectors that are attached to an aluminum handlebar. ...it also has the full tank/motor/valve cover protector kit installed, a luggage rack, a bigger alternator, bigger foot pegs and then some other stuff I forgot.

Caponord was Aprilia's adventure bike, more street-oriented like a Ducati Multistrada or Triumph Tiger. An excellent bike.
![]() The BMW GS Adventure is more the heavy-duty version of the GS. Heavier with crash bars, more lighting and wind protection, huge tank, more suspension travel, etc. Most people say the extra weight isn't worth it unless you really need it. BMW website spec comparison.

Thanks for the quick info guys. That Caponord looks really cool. I see that you said 'was' Steve. Guess they don't make them anymore huh. The GS sounds probably perfect. Just add the accessories one would want.
There's a bunch of GS's in CA for sale, including a few 07's, lots of 08's as well as 09's. Obviously the deals are better on the older ones. Have they made any significant changes that would warrant an 09 in your opinions?

...'08 was the model year for reasonably significant changes again.. starting in '07 the brakes were not linked anymore and the ABS was the new one that only adds 3 pounds and has no servos.
'08 had a more powerful engine and a few more gadgets as well as the latest version of the EWS that supposedly does not fail anymore... they also improved the FD. If you want ABS, go 07 and up... if you want 7 more ponies, go 08 and up... if you want a great bike that can do almost everything well, go GS. It's much like the 11S just with a few added capabilities. But power and weight of the early 12GS was comparable to the 11S... the newer ones fare a tad bit better. Neither one is bad, though and the seating position is just lovely for almost any kind of riding! Sergio, Kerry and I will be riding around SoCal the next couple of days... The Sergemeister will be riding either my GS or Kerry's Rental for a while... we'll see what he'll have to say after that! ![]()
