since money is no object, why not fit one of these pieces of italian trickery, you could drop the stock signals in the process, and they would be ready in a minute for track day!.

shreddr,
had those on my hypermoto. Their totally bogas plastic money makers for the parts depart.
But even though they stuck out so much that you couldn't split traffic,(once hit two mirrors on cars at the same time, sorry), you could see with them

sergio,
thank you, not one of my stellar moments.

Chris,

I would be interested in any mirror mod that you make.

I took out one of the bar ends and used a caliper to get some measurements.

The outer diameter of the bar is 0.866 inches.

The interior of the bar is 0.643 inches.

The interior of the bar on top of the screw threads is 0.572 inches.

The bar end screw / weight itself is 0.629 inches on top of the threads.

I guess that makes it a 16mm inner diameter bar.

I'm still headed in the direction of a spacer mounted between the base of the mirror stalk and the rubber boot/gasket which protects the fairing. The bar ends certainly offer the prospect of a great view but in my estimation you have to look too far outboard to use them. I don't like turning my head and shifting my view that far away from where I am going.

I ordered a set of these kinds of spacers that were made for a VFR in hopes of seeing if they could be used. Obviously the shape was off (bad esthetics) and they weighed a ton (not encouraging for those worried about stress on the fairing).

Today I dropped the mirror, gasket, screws and a pattern matching the base of the mirror stalk with a local machinist. He is going to try to make a set of 1 inch spacers (extenders) from Delrin, a duPont developed plastic. The hope is that the much lighter weight won't tax the CF fairing. These will be milled using a CNC milling machine. He does not have a CAD machine which would probably make it easier.

When he gets in touch with the result I'll post the outcome. I'd say it'll be a couple of weeks as he has to order the Delrin block.

Alex

Tell him to make a run of 10 sets or so. Count me in for one set. Glad to pay in advance. Thanks for this excellent step forward Alex.

I tried spacers like that on a Honda VTR1000 SuperHawk that proved to be useless. On that bike, the mirror stalks appear to head outboard at a more direct angle than the HP-2 Sport, which head more vertical. Just sit on the bike and imagine your mirrors 1" farther up/out in the direction the stalks are going and see if you think it'll help. I haven't done that, but I bet it won't help.

Nothing substantive to report on the mirror project other than that I found, on ukgser.com, a comment from an HP2 Sport owner (Yonkyo in Bristol) who had some success with what I think is the same type of thing I am trying.

I picked up the spacers yesterday but have not yet mounted them because the bike is at the dealer's having the oil changed, an accessory socket installed and the belly pan replaced. (glad I didn't have to pay for the belly pan) I pick it up tomorrow (Sat).

Here are a few facts: The spacers were made of aluminum. They are one inch thick, weigh about 4.75 oz each and are black anodized. By way of comparison the ones that I purchased with an eye to modifying that were made for a VFR weigh 8 oz each. The OEM mirror weighs 10 oz.

No pictures yet. I will post pictures tomorrow or the next day along with comments on well how they work.

The fellow who made them does not have a CAD machine but is willing to produce additional sets. He cut them from aluminum stock and then did some drilling, grinding and sanding before anodizing the parts. He says he would likely charge $125.00 US per set to make more. He will probably ask that you send along the rubber gasket that sits at the base of the mirror stalk.

Frankly, this is pretty straight forward stuff other than the fact that there are so many compound elements to the curves outline of the spacer. It shouldn't be too difficult to find other machine shops that can do this. With luck you might have a shop close by that has CAD capabilities and automated milling equipment. There is a certain hand made quality to these.

More when I get them mounted.

It was damaged in shipment...not to the point of being unsound but certainly a serious cosmetic issue. I wouldn't have noticed it for a while but the service technician who uncrated the bike noticed it and let us know about it. I think the thing costs something like $2,800 US.

It's a mystery...the crate did not appear to be damaged so it must have happened at the factory prior to banding and crating.

This is *real* interesting. A&S has one that is damaged. Same thing. Belly pan and a few other items damaged but the box had no damage.
