Strange. Mine has a blemish under the clear on the tail section that is being warrantied. It was found during the PDI and took 2.5 months to get a replacement. When the replacement came in it was physically damaged during shipping or ?

Exactly! Nothing but the lower fairing was damaged and not severely at that. I can't even remember which side it was on but it was quite near the bottom and toward the front!?

Today I mounted the mirrors using the extenders I had made by a local machine shop. No test ride yet as it is 28 degrees fahrenheit with promises of mid to upper 50's tomorrow.

This is probably not a total solution. As one of the posters noted, it would be very good to employ a design that moves the mirrors more outboard. But I think it will certainly be an improvement.

One of the pictures shows two screws. The shorter screw is the stock screw and the longer one is need to remount the mirrors.

Pictures today and road test tomorrow.

I took the HP out this afternoon and did about 100 miles with the new mirror setup.

The verdict is that the spacers helped. They did not have as much of an impact as I had hoped but the view is a bit better. The mirrors need to move more out than up and this doesn't solve the problem. I took the little convex mirrors that I had attached off but may look for some others.

I also have a GT in the garage and can't help but think that those mirrors might work. The problem is that there is a lot of fairing and such that has to come off just to get at them to see if they would work.

So, I guess the verdict is that they work to some degree, though they do not solve the issue. They don't detract either from the looks or the function of the bike. So...I'm keeping them.

looks good, but it seems to me like you would have wanted a 30 degree angle on the mounting face to get them up and out. This will require you to bolt the spacer to the mirror with one set of screws and then the combo to the bike with another set of screws.

If the crate is dropped the bike will compress the shocks and bottom out IMHO. This would crack the cf which is paper thin.

are you sure 30 is the right number?
i'd personally tend towards 22.5 as a rootline, but there's nothing wrong with 27, 29 or even maybe a radical 31.
any of those would be more organic and visually pleasing.
a flat 30? jeez dude, ain't you never sat through one of those product design meetings?

you sound like your head is buried sphincter-deep in an engine build or somethin'.

i knew 45 was probably too much. i was actually going to suggest some kind of flexible temporary mount and then he could just push the around until he got them in a place where they gave the best vision, and then figure out what the angle was.

As far as the engine rebuild goes, I am only elbow deep at this point!

New Approach/Better View

I'm working on a new concept to resove the requirement to perform the Ducati Salute to check your 6 oclock. I'll post it after I have the mock-up and talk with Chris.

I have finished the concept on my adapter/extender mock-up and it works. The rear visibility is very good without moving my arm to see behind me. I have sent the picture to a friend for critique and comment. I am in the very initial stage of defining the product. I'm hoping that it can be produced as a high quality carbon fiber component.

We have now finalized our HP2 Sport mirror. It replaces the standard bar end (it threads directly into the end of the bar, with just a touch of Locktite). We have found these to be nice and stable while riding, highly adjustable and they provide an excellent rear view, especially when compared to that provided by the OEM mirrors. We chose to use the folding type CRG mirror for its adjustability, and it is MADE IN AMERICA - something we should all be thinking about these days. Replacement glass for these is readily available due to it being a U.S. sourced product. We can sell these for $135 each (which includes the mirror and the bar end adapter, and plugs for the fairing if you wish to remove the stock mirrors after installing these). If you want to do a group buy (at least 20 units/10 pairs) we will see some savings which we can pass along to the Pelicanites.

Thanks,
Chris
