...that's about the only reason why you would put a zip-tie there, Rob... his is compressing a little to much, I'd say! ... and yes, he has...

Zip tie to help set static sag, then to see travel on the move.

1/2 to 3/4 " from bottom is what I like to see under hard braking, downhill, almost to the point of doing a stoppie.

The bike that really needs help on the sag is the Mammut, especially the rear shocks.

Their not quite up to supporting 800 Lbs of combined rider and bike weight.

I must admit, I've been itching a bit for one of these. I'll tell ya, if the thing wasn't quite so much $$$$, I'd be on a plane today to ride it home.

BTW, can the R12HPS still be ordered?

Call BMW ATL they are selling it for 1k off the list price. That means you get the ABS free. I'm heading down to the Keys on Sunday and could deliver it for a small fee. I have an enclsoed trailer.

Well well like all your bikes
I would like to ask you a question which do you like better BMW HP2S or the Ducati 1098S ?

Hard to say.

They're both a pretty good ride, though the Duc @ 150 RWHP and 425 Lbs , with a full tank, is faster.

I buy bikes for technology variations ( ancient or modern ) as much as performance.

Chris Dolan, what is the size of the exhaust pipe on that 1098, it looks twice the diameter of the HPE i have on my R12. The Termignoni exhausts are wild sometimes, and I struggle to understand why some of them are so huge. I assume there is an optimum diameter, that provides scavenging (pressure drop) along with velocity, so I am wondering how a 1100cc, twin cylinder Ducati needs an exhaust that looks like an Anaconda compared to the garter snake on my bike.

I can only guess it has to do with the higher operating RPM , length of the exhaust, and even the bends.

It's certainly not lacking in low end grunt like one would think .

I bet you could. Nail, if you have some spare time on your way back, maybe a cup of coffee around my way - Ft. Lauderdale? I could meet you wherever. Be nice to start meeting some of you losers!

Maybe a group ride for us FL/GA guys??

I promise not to ride the Harley.

It's been over 2 years of hp2 ownership for me. Do it all over again, no doubt.

I do anything from 2-10 trackdays per year, time permitting and enter about 3-4 off-road rally events per year. the rest of my riding is 95% off-road, trails, hydro lines, wider single track etc.

Two years I've thought of a second bike and have passed; I can't imagine the hp2 sitting at home.

I'll likely buy something else in future but I will keep the hp2.

When buying any higer end halo model I suggest considering the following:

resale
length of time you plan on keeping it
end use, not imagined but real way you will use it
difference between standard v. halo model

For me the hp2 compared to the 12GS was a no-brainer.

I didn't care about resale
I will keep it forever
I ride off-road 95% of the time and was pushing my limits on the 12GS; in contrast the HP2 is easier off-road for me and I'm nowhere near its limits
the hp2 to r12gs is worlds apart in performance, on track or off-road

somehow, I don't think you can say the same thing about the differences between a reasonably appointed (FI management, exhaust) R12 and an HP2S, different? yes. the HP2S is better? yes. worlds apart? no

HP2 Megamoto - released late autumn 2007
HP2 Sport - released spring 2008
