...this is my kind of riding, this was actually already on the other side, on the way form St Mary... it was hard to concentrate on riding when this stuff is left and right... and the roads are rather questionable!

Yes, I was there...

Folks, these pictures are not chronological, as I am taking pictures with two cameras... this was today on the way from St Mary to Waterton, Canada...

Well, the way this comes across, it couldn't be... could it?

YES, IT WAS... (no that there is anything wrong with it...) Good thing that Aliens are welcome there as well. I took this picture riding, didn't feel the need to test the (also announced) XTRSPCYness... life seems to be good in the woods... long, long winters!

This is the big cheese, CHIEF MOUNTAIN... another very spiritual place for the Blackfoot Indians... the elders visited the mountain for their visions and inspiration. He is the king of the hill... there is no doubt.

Every now and then, the mountains come together for informal, democratic meetings about certain issues at hand (like, when to end the hybernation of the grizzly's... how and when to get rid of the glaciers... or to throw an avalanche or two at tourists... you know, regular stuff) and usually thing go well, but if in doubt, he does have the final word!

And I am in Canada...

Actually, THAT IS in Canada... a Bison Paddock... I rode right in... the sign said "These are WILD animals, please stay in the car.. I DID NOT HAVE A CAR. ALthough I do not have any pictures of the ensuing "Mexican Standoff" (my hands where schwaety and very busy with clutch and Gas... no time for pictures) I did take some pictures when the bull finally decided to let me roll on... albeit from afar!

HA... another bridge!

And that is what it looks lke in Canada, an hour away from the park... YAWN!

Seriously, it was siesta time as shown in the next picture

How coincidential... almost like MAGIC!

Lyrics to Canada's Really Big

When i look around me, i can't believe what i see
it seems as if this country has lost it's will to live
the economy is lousy, we barely have an army
but we can still stand proudly because Canada's really big
we're the second largest country on this planet earth
and if Russia keeps on shrinking, then soon we'll be first!
(as long as we keep quebec)

The USA has tanks, and Switzerland has banks
they can keep them banks, they just don't amount
cause when you get down to it, you find out what the truth is,
it isn't what you do with it, it's the size that counts

most people will tell you that france is pretty large
but you can put fourteen france's, into this land of ours!
(it'd take a lot of work, it'd take a whole lot of work)

we're bigger than malaysia, we're most as big as asia
we're bigger than australia and it's a continent!
so big we sell them butter, to go see one another
but we often go to other countries for vacations

our mountains are very pointy, our prairies are not
the rest is kinda bumpy, but man do we have a lot!

(we've got a lot of land, we've got a whole lot of land)

so stand up and be proud and sing it very loud
we stand out from the crowd, cause Canada's really big

I sure hope so, Bill... at $241, it better be lasting a while

Ivan, the things (songs) you know..

...this is how I was welcome into Calgary!

The next few pictures have been 37 years in the making... ever since I saw a picture of Lake McDonald in a 6th grade Geography book, it was my described goal to go there some day... that day was finally there last Wednesday (I believe... time has become so abstract already). As cheesy as it may be, I was crying... in part because of what I saw but also because I DID finally see it...

Here are some example pics... the drawback being that in some shots it was VERY hazy and in other's I could not carry the tripod along. If I'd have the time to hang around for a few days and hike some, there may be better days... but the weather all along the trip has been iffy at best, so far... still:

These were taken, driving along Lake McDonald... the sheer beauty of the park has left me speechless and awed... and everywhere you look, there is something else..

...different time of the day, alter... after I had set up camp and was done driving and walking around.

My campsite at Apgar... nicely tucked into the woods.

On the east side of the park, looking east... what a difference!... and up there, my friends again. For anyone who has ever read Dougls Adam's Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy... I was starting to feel like Rob McKenna... the poor truck driver whom the rainclouds had deemed THEIR good and as such, where eagerly trying to please him with all sorts of different types of rain... I have had only ONE rainless day so far.

This one: VERY COOL... another spiritual site... called Trick Falls... if you look closely, you can see that there are actually TWO streams of water falling... Right now, with "RAINY SEASON" and al he melting water flowing, it spews from the top and from the middle, in the late Summer, it will be just the middle and the top stays dry... I would have tried to climb up and check it out from up top... but I was all by me lonesome and in PRIME Grizzly Territory...

There is another cool legend around these falls, but I am just way to tired abd burnt out to write this now.

The water in the streams is as clear as glass... it is incredible... it also makes them VERY HARD to fish...

Of course, there is no global warming...

The lady from North Carolina who took my picture... I was tempted to say something but alas... I am just happy to have some pics with me in them...

...more waterfalls (don't go chasing them now...) in locactions that made me huff and puff... lot's of hiking to get to the pretty stuff... not exactly easy with riding gear and boots:

And another crafty bridge on the way to one of them...

A weeping wall... always a GRAND sight.. this one no exception!

From the campsite at Many Glacier at night (last night...

and a VERY early morning visitor at said site...

My - also very early - morning hike today... it was the deep Forrest and I WAS whistling... LOUDLY!

Led me to this very mystical spot, though...

Red Rock Falls... in Many Glacier... nice little hike and it was warm and beautiful... but with no other folks around a little eerie as well, I have to admit.

He, got any food for me?

NO?... darned...

YUP...

the aftermass of the Mexican Standoff, from a safer distance... these things are massive!

That'll be all folks... good night!

For the most part, yes.... last night, however, I crashed... HARD. I had run myself down to a point where I was completely dehydrated and sun burnt (not realizing the latter, as I am using good sun-screen). It was so bad that even after a 30 minute piping hot shower, I was still shivering.

I had a weird night of sleep, dreaming about all sorts of Grizzly Bears... but this morning I feel good enough to keep on moving. PeterZ is going to be here around 11:00AM and then we'll go for a ride in his backyard...

I need to pay more attention to myself... once I am out in the schticks, such neglect could be slightly more catastrophic.

I am learning as I go.

I hope you are talking about sleep and not hitting the pavement.. That day after day riding is great fun but can take it's toll.

Great photos!

Take care and good luck.

Ralf ,I read somewhere that Canadian grizzlys do not like german food! With all the hiking and riding you are doing the fluid in the body disapears pretty quick sounds like a lay day coming up.
Great photos, must be a great feeling being in the middle of nowhere.....completely alone.
Was raining here this morning
