AZ lane splitting law....

I cant believe this is the first I have seen of this... looks like its on the way to the governor, and makes lane sharing legal.... the legislation pending would cause the editing to the current law as shown:

If I read it correctly, it only allows two motorcycles to be side by side... not a car and a motorcycle... though it doesn't specifically state that is illegal. Dunno.

It does make it unlawful for a car and a motorcycle "A person shall not drive a motor vehicle in such a manner as to deprive any motorcycle of the full use of a lane."

Then it clarifies the above with "This subsection does not apply to motorcycles operated two abreast in a single lane."

Personally, I can't wait for it to pass.

if it doesnt say you CANT do it, then you can. thats the nature of the law.

the proposal strikes the language that explicitly prohibits lane sharing. if it passes, Rob can leave later for work.

I am sure the angry mob outside the main gate every morning would love the motorcyclists skipping to the front of the queue. I will have to get a Harley and a tattoo so people think I am tough.

Ah! That's the same way it's legal here in California... it's not explicitly illegal. A buddy of mine became a cop a few years ago and was asking me about it so I asked him to look up the code where it says it's illegal. He had no luck!

I like the idea of lane splitting, and I think I'd benifit from judicious use of it. But I'm always amazed to hear people complain that "if they have to wait in thier car, then a guy on a bike should have to wait too".

How childish is that?

Friday afternoon is notorious for its traffic jams in Germany - I just made a trip out on the bike ~20 miles rd trip for which the car were all parked on the Bahn, while I slip through them doing about 15 mph -- going to miss that when I get back to the states...

Yeah, I'm sure they only say that when they are IN FRONT of the bike in line. Can't they see it benefits them too? - morons

Childish ? Ah, the crux of the biscuit ! It really started with the lines for Santa Claus like in that movie and of course nobody ever got over that. So no wonder........... Or maybe it was the soup.

About average. Actually I'm still trying to figure out why my van is blowing massive amounts of bubbles out of the radiator overflow. I'm afraid its the dreaded head gasket repair.

I've never heard that one before... but here in California people are used to it.

I think maybe about 1 in 20 cars during rush hour will actually notice me coming up on them and actually move over. I try to always thank them with a wave.

Last week I saw two car/mc accidents where the HOV lane allows drivers to exit the HOV lane. Inevitably inexperienced riders don't slow down when splitting this area and some careless/inexperienced driver will make a lane change without signaling and without looking for motorcyclists. With that said, lane sharing while in the HOV lane is probably the safest place for a motorcyclists since the vast majority of drivers already know this is where we hang out.
