Another Triumph in the House...hold

My dad came down to the valley after a couple of days on the road aboard his 2010 Triumph Thruxton. He's enjoying the retired-life with occasional multi-day moto trips and I'm pretty damn jealous.

He came down to Phoenix because I had lined up a demo ride on the new 2011 Triumph Sprint 1050 GT. Dad has been enjoying the vintage appeal of the Thrux but between tubed tires, zero wind protection and lack of lockable luggage solutions he's considering a true sport-touring bike.

Crystal and I met him over at Go AZ Motorcycles in Scottsdale. We were riding 2-up on my R11S (a worthy opponent) for a short ride over to Saguaro Lake.

......and yeah, he bought it.

Cool, another bike in the house. I hope he enjoys it.

Did he trade the Thruxton? I'd be inclined to keep 'em both for different kinds of rides.

He doesn't want to sell it but Mom is sayin' there isn't enough room for both bikes. It's living in my garage for at least a few months to see if something can be worked out. I've offered to house the 400F to make room

He's got the Thruxton pretty pimped out and it's sure a looker so I hope he doesn't have to sell it.

So you are basically hiding it for him, cool, no doubt returning some favors from your younger years.

I hope your dad enjoys his new bike, does your mom ride along with him, or does he go by himself. Sounds like a great opportunity for some family 2up motorcycle trips.

Well that was quick

Mom woke dad up last night at 10:00 (probably went to bed at 8:30) to tell him he could keep the Thruxton!

My parents used to tour 2-up all the time before I came along but my mom has gotten super paranoid about other vehicles around them - especially semi-trucks. Not riding on the Thruxton though was a matter of protest. She is a BMW snob. I sure hope she goes on the back of the Sprint someday with him, even if just for breakfast.
