Electrical question for the tech guru team...
 

I'm fitting my nicely painted plastic 'race' bodywork this weekend, and of course there are glitches, but the biggest one I just discovered is there's nowhere to mount the front indicators.

I'm not too troubled by this from a safety perspective, as this is a bike that will do a few hunder miles a year max, but I am cocerned that it may freak out the electrical system. Any words of wisdom on just running the rear indicator lights?

Before you ask 'Why?' I decided it was a smart idea after hearing that a bad tip over in a parking lot or a walking speed spill can write off an HP2S with it's madly priced and basically unobtainable carbon body work.

If you are talking about the front turn indicators, I don't think they will be a problem if not installed. They are set up to be removed for track ops. There are sources for the cf if damaged beyond repair. There was a thread a while back that talked about this issue.

Well happily my CF will be neatly and beautifully packed in the attic!! :-))

Good news on the indicators, I'll try running just rears and see if it works ok, I was worried it would do that crazy double time blinking that some do when one bulb goes out.

It most likely will blink fast, and I think you get a lamp warning if it is like the R1200s.

on second thought, you might not get a lamp warning from the blinkers, I got that warning at a track day, but I had my headlight unplugged also.

This reminds me of the time my dad put those ugly clear plastic seat covers on our 1955 Chevrolet BelAir 2dr HTC so the next owner could have those beautiful seats after we had sweated our a$$ off on that horrible plastic.:)

And this morning that story is even more apt, after spending almost 4k on the combined total it doesn't even fit right!!

Can it be cut off flush, drilled out, and have the correct one epoxied in?

A Dremel or an air grinder might be able to get in there.

What he said. go get some dremel bits made to sharpen chainsaw teeth, they are more durable than the hobby stuff.

I'm toally confused by this intiative. I insure the bike for full replacement value. If they write it off I get 18K. In the mean time I get to enjoy the CF beauty as intended. And, only a few hundred KM's per year?????? - shame! Ride it like you stole it and do it often!! My 2 bits.

The dremmel bit I have it 1/2" round, so won't fit without eating into the fairing.

Peter, I was without my Megamoto for 7 months because it was rammed by a cyclist, that could well have written off the S, or at least tied it up for over 12 months waiting for parts. The CF stuff is made in small batches when required, it is not kept in stock. I'm as concerned with the annoyance of not having the parts than anything, but I also wanted the LE look, as I think it suits the S much better.

Before you butcher the piece and the company that made it refuses to take it back, send it back to them for a correct replacement.

Cage, He already has a full custom paint job on it.

The paint shop, Finishing Touch, have been super helpful. I just had a good email exchange with John to say that he'll take back the fairing and see if he can fix it. If not he'll get Catalyst, who made it, to make another one up with the correct fittments, and he'll match it to the one he already did.

So from my initial deep disapointment at getting stuff that wouldn't fit my bike, the good news is that my suppliers are on my side. Phew!!!!


Now back to my original question, can I run rear indicators only without the doubletime flashing?

Ohms Law is your friend when dealing with missing loads. A resistor of the correct size/wattage can be used to substitue a missing Lamp.

Fantastic, but where can I find one, and where/how do I add it to the bike, are there kits available for that kind of stuff?

Macfly, have you thought about just connecting them up and zip tying them the the subframe and if necessary just blacking them out with Electrical tape. that's the simple fix.

No space, this thing is so tightly packed, it is a real projectile under the plastic pretty face! They are now blinking fairly quickly, but I kind of like it, it gives a sense of urgency!

No, it's just yankee engineering. Go back to sleep peanut head.:D Or if that doesn't work you can watch Corser ride a S1000RR backwards.;)
