Maybe too loose. In '05 I think you have the ELAST belt with either the 40A or 50A alternator. How was the old one tightened, if you know?

I just checked my 05 BCP with 21,500 miles during a major service. Looks good , no frays or cracks yet. Did seem loose with a little more than a 90 degree twist. Has any one used the Hz method like on the Ducati cam belts. If not what is the bet way to adjust a new belt?

I picked up the bike in '06 with 3300 mile on it. So I'm guessing it was installed at factory. Aside from the part of the belt that rolled, it looked healthy.

I guess I'm having a hard time visualizing what happened.

It would help to know what "rolling an alternator belt" means.

Bob I changed mine at 30,000 miles and it still looked pretty good but it's so easy to do and needs no adjustment for the R12S so why not.

For the R11S there's an arm you adjust...slacken to remove, then tighten to adjust. It's in the maintenance manual which I no longer have easy access to.

Anyway, for either bike it's not that hard to do. Easier than changing belts on a Ducati.
