Removal of Mirror Glass Anyone?

I want to remove my mirror glass, cover the black plastic with carbon fiber (no, not carbon fiber looking stuff), and reinstall. I think that it would really look sweet.

Has anyone removed their mirrors from the housing before? Hopefully without breaking them!

On my 1100S the glass became loose when it got too hot from direct summer sunlight. Maybe you could remove the mirrors & put them a 175F oven & see if the adhesive loosens up enough to get the mirrors free.

I know how to do it for a R1200S, I just changed the right mirror on mine due to a scratch, the replacement mirror is $40.

Once you remove the turn signal plastic piece look at the back of the assembly you will see two small holes on either side of the center hub the mirror moves on. What you do is reach in with two small screw drivers and pry the circle clip out of its grove and push it all the way to the back of the mirror assembly and then you can pull the mirror off. The parts fiche gives you an idea of how it goes together.

To put it back you push the mirror back on and then reach in and pull the circle clip back into it's grove by reaching in with a small pick tool and/or a small screw driver from the side.

You can also separate the two large plastic halves of the mirror-turn_signal assembly by lightly prying with a plastic putty knife along the mating edges, I took the halves apart trying to figure out how to get the mirror off, but as I found out this is not required to remove the mirror.

I hope this helps

I looked and there is no breakdown on the R1100S mirror. Does anyone even know how to get the mirror piece off of the stem?
