Why are we brothers thinking that it is time to let the HP2's go? I have not been riding mine much these past three months but with Spring in the jump, it seems time to bleed the brakes, start in on leg squats, and get ready to ride. The Rockster and R11S have been fun but there comes a time..............when it time to get on a real twin..........and the problem with being a "impossible to change boxer fan" is that one remains convinced that there simply will be yet another improvement in boxer history very soon............if we but wait our time.

Rumors about the new water cooled S are sneaking thru the line..........BUT I know that my current HP will be quite enough until this new liquid cooled boxer animal steps forth. Here are some of the things we have heard about and are wishing for. DOHC with Radial Titanium valves, traction control with staged power levels and lean sensors, Switchable ABS Braking, slipper clutch, 13/1 compression, ceramic coated piston tops, valve faces, and combustion chamber face areas, flat I beam rods with lazier drilled oil passage thru them to the piston pins, 3-mm longer rods than current HP, ultra fine mist injectors (7 - 9 holes/3.5 to 4 bar), transmission and engine share 100% synthetic oil and common filter, higher mpg, less weight than current R1200S by almost 25 pounds, less width, more compact, less cluttered looking and more miles between scheduled maintenance, plus a longer warranty.

Until then, it is the same old HP2 for me, as I have heard that one can not even get $14,000. for one with more that 7500 miles on it and mine is really just starting to really run hard, slowly broken in and all.

I would love to find a HP2 Sport for a reasonable price. First mod would be heated grips

why? because i found a Porsche that I always wanted....that and the un-comfy super bike ergos, I just don't care for them....does it change my opinion of the motorcycle itself? absolutely not....it remains in my eyes one of the most beautiful and well designed modern day motorcycles ever produced.

that and you gotta strike when the market's hot.

If you think the HP2S has uncomfy ergos... 'Bike' magazine did a write up when it first came out, it's actually got the most comfy of them all.

+1

if you are around 6' tall and ever sat on a CBR 1000 or S1000RR for that matter you would get how roomy the HP2S is!

Jim, with so few of them in the USA and Canada, it's good that they sell at least every two years so that others may enjoy the uber boxer. I enjoyed mine while i had it; but, actually, I miss my Ducati 900SS/SP Final Edition more. But, both bikes emitted a beautiful note on engine braking. The ergos on the HP2S were never a negative factor for me.

The economy has certainly kicked the crap out of used bike prices, but I do think the HP2S is probably holding value better than most. Only a desperate seller would let one go for $14,000. I think the current average price is probably somewhere around $17,000 for a low mileage stocker.

Imagine how you would feel though if you had to sell a POS Gnarley for $15K that cost you $30K in all its bloated, underpowered chromed glory. The HP2 Sports are holding value, because value was built into the entire bike, not added at the paint shop and electroplaters!

Don't kid yourselves,
It is not a workhorse, it's a weekend sports car.
(yes there are a few people that actually ride mega miles, but just a few)

The bike seems to be the most expensive ride you will ever take based on a cost per mile.
So enjoy its beauty, and polish and wax it.

Lets see a list of HP2 Sport owners, with purchase price, miles when bought, and current miles (or miles when sold)...

No Mr. Carr. My most expensive ride was a H-D Road King Classic It's price drop was equal to the weight of the bike. But, there are few motorcycles that hold their value in the first 10 years or so after produced. You don't see many high-mileage H-D's in the parking lots. Now if you count trailering miles many are off the charts.

So, $850 dollars??

Nail, lets see your real facts.
What did you pay for the HP2 Sport, how many miles did you put on it, and what did you sell for??

And how many miles did you put on that Road King Classic, because I have 50,000 miles on my FXDX that I bought new for $15,500 or 31 cents per mile (and declining, because contrary to popular BMW opinion, it just runs & runs)...

you don't buy sport bikes because they are the best dollar per mile value, you buy them because they are a pisser to ride.

right behind these trees there is an excellent forest!

The weight comment was not literal. Suffice it to say that in constant $$'s the Harley took the greater plunge. You can figure out the cost of these bikes in constant dollars and then at the two year point if. My 85 FXRS is just about to turn 34k but I can find 4 year old H-D's with less than 2k on the clock.

Whats the point of the pictures? There is no data to study. That was the objective, not circle talk.

By the way, I can find BMW's with < 2,000 on them - so what.

An argument can be made that the overall rider demographic has changed from belief to reality regarding BMW riders, miles, etc. I'd say they are as much a boutique bike and rider as Harley. I mean, nobody on this board seems to be riding except Dee and Bob...

And by the way, for those not familiar with HD, that's not an FXRS you are showing. Looks like your garage queen with 500 miles on it.
Take your iPhone into the basement and click a picture.
Did you buy the FXRS new?
