What engine is this?
I have an engine that has some oddities that maybe the forum could clear up...I am really an air cooled guy so excuse my uneducated questions.
***I have what I believe to be a 2009 engine. "2009" is engraved on top of block near the cylinder head area. ***The engraved identification number is "MA 120Cxxxxxxx" (this is the style of engine that the post IMS engine style) ***It has intake port fuel injection- not "direct injection" as the 997 would have at the time of 2009 onward. ***It has an oil filler cap with pull out funnel at alternator area which is how the 997 would be confgured for adding oil. My question comes down to this: How could any Boxster or Cayman ever be equipped with this style of oil filler that would not be accessable on a mid engine configuration. The oil filler appears very original and unaltered. Thanks , Mike |
Hi Mike - would you be able to post a few photos of the engine?

My thought at this point is engine is from salvage car and the yard switched the oil fill tube with one from a 911 (hence the rear oil fill by the drive belt) I think everything is 2009 Cayman 2.9 otherwise ... Thanks for looking, Mike |
