987.1 vs 987.2

As a basically impatient person, I think I know the answer to my question, but I want to pose it anyway.

What are the net pros/cons of a 2008 Boxster S vs a 2009-2012 S?

In my recent search, initially I was looking at any 3.4 S's so 2007-2012. What I found nationally was a TON of 2008's and a few '09-12 cars.

What I really want is the equipment in the '08 RS60, especially for the Sport Seats. However (and this is where the patience part comes in), there are NO 987.2 cars that I've seen (stick or PDK) with sport seats. I've driven a '10 w/ the normal seats and was underwhelmed w/ the bolster support. My present car has very supportive, comfortable Koenig leather seats so I'm at a disadvantage moving to a Boxster from those, but I'm coming to grips w/ it.

What I really want is an RS60 w/ 987.2 3.4 transplanted into it. I;m sure 987 owners feel the no-IMS argument is over-blown and, at ~ $28-30k for a nicer, low-mileage RS60, I can buy the same level of low-mile 987.2. Hoping some 987.2 owner w/ a silver car and red, brown or black sport seats comes forward soon. :)

Do I just have to be patient? Or, am I delusional that at some point 987.2 owners w/ sport seats are going to sell or trade their cars in 2019? Suggestions?

Merry Christmas,
John

Right up to the point it goes "bang"...…………..

I have two 08 987.1 S models. One is driven in nice weather from Mar - Nov while the other one is my DE and winter car. Basically driven under quite different scenarios. Both have approx. 60K mi. I sleep well at night not worrying about IMS.

My LE has std seats and my CSS has sport seats. Obviously the sport seats are better, but not to the point where you barely move. I am not totally planted when on the track with my CSS. But if you're spending big bucks, don't settle for less.

The problem with finding the exact 987.2 S is they made so few of them and the owners tend to hang on to them. If you find your white whale, snap it up as it will be hard to find another.

Indeed, however, Murphy’s Law of car buying; you find a pretty good match; buy it; and then your dream comes along.

All you silver w/ black, cocoa, or red owners of 987.2’s, the 2019’s are here so time to list your car for the spring market! 😊

Cheers

Problem Solved

Closed a deal on a 2010 BS w/ 28k miles today. Took over five months to find the right one, and, I'm still impatient. But all's well that ends well.

Congrats! Worth the wait, low miles DFI and you can sleep well knowing you don't have a ~10% chance of catastrophic engine failure to the tune of $20k engine replacement. Pics on arrival please!

Thanks. Here are the pics from the dealer in Chicago. Hoping to Sharkify w/ IPD plenum and 82mm throttle body and flash tune fior 93 octane. Car already has a Milltek exhaust so that should be a good basis for a responsive, sporty S.

Future mod would be Soul Performance sport cat long-tube headers.

Which is highly unlikely with the larger bearing these motors have. That said, there are other issues which can take these motors out that makes the 9A1 in the 987.2 so appealing...
