Squealing in steering column

Hello everyone! I have a 2007 Boxster Base. Recently, i’ve been hearing a squeaking/squealing sound coming from the steering column when i turn the wheel at low speeds. It seems to get worse when it’s cold, and nearly disappears when it’s warm, leading me to think it’s some sort of rubber seal. Does anyone know what it is, and if it’s something i can DIY? Thanks!

I have the same issue in my 2005. I don't think it's coming from the column. I assumed it was the PS pump. Will take it to my friendly mechanic and let you know what he finds. Until then, anybody else?

Went in to talk with my mechanic but could not leave the car. He advised to check power steering fluid level and check for leaks. I have travel plans so I can’t get into it now.
Let me know if you explore this possibility.

Opened up the access hole to the top of the engine and checked the PS level and sure enough it was about a half pint low. Topped it off and the noise is gone. Of course the question is: where did it go? More investigation needed but for now, I am happy there was no expensive mechanic’s bill.
Hope this helped.
