Fuel pump

2003 Porsche 986 s
53000 miles
Gone to start today and just cranks,No start
Does fuel pump run when just the ignitions turned on.Or do you have to keep cranking it for pump to work.

On most fuel injection vehicles you should hear the pump pressurize when you turn the key on.

Does the Tach twitch at all when you try to start? Smell gas out the tailpipe?

Listen for that HUM up front when you turn your key on, with only 53k miles I don't think the pump would have failed already. Here are two of my videos on testing the fuel system on our Boxsters.

I think I'd probably change out the fuel filter, just because. Mine, with about 73k on it back flowed black gas! Wish fuel filters didnt cost so much!!!
