Loose or sloppy key position
Have a 1988 Cab 911 that last year finally got the cab top working. While it was at the shop the guy top me my ignition switch was going to have to be replaced because when switched to the first position its not firm but a sloppy fit. This then causes the power top to not work because there isn't a firm electrical connection.
The key fits and car starts fine. The Ignition has never been removed as the bolts are there. So is this a tumbler thing, or bent or loose part somewhere in ignition mechanism? Just wondering if anyone has had this experience. Will be taking the ignition out tomorrow. Just wanted someone's else experience as I cannot find a thread with a loose key position issue. thanks |

Presumably, like the Boxster, the immobilizer controls the top through the top relay. Check the signals at the immobilizer for the top switches and ignition switch. Wiggle the key around to see if they are intermittent.
If a loose key were the problem then any other function in the first key position would also have a problem. |
