COnvertible top timing

Hey folks,

new to me 2003 Boxster S. convertible top had the usual broken transmission gear. new gears installed on the driver side and it is installed and working correctly but no linkages hooked up yet. passenger side transmission also has broken housing that holds in the cable so it is being replaced. Any suggestions on how to properly time the top since i have no frame of reference?

TIA.
Neal

Surely you did a search-bar inquiry or Google, yes? You read the plethora of posts upon this and other forums revealing the process for repair, yes? You watched the Youtube videos that illustrated the process, yes?

I've found that if I make a repair inquiry upon the forums and the topic already has been covered amillion times... I get few responses. FEW, because the topic has exhaustively been covered... already... and many tire of regurgitating the same information you can find in 10 seconds.

Try it.

Do some reading... some researching... and some viewing.

No?

Welcome to the forum.

I "popped" something on my top's mechanisms... so I went the "manual" route until I tend to a proper diagnosis and repair.

Some forums members say that getting everything to work is easy... once you understand the system. If you can't get the operation proper then you might consider a top shop. In any event...

Here's a link that might help get you started...

He's a knowing fella upon the forums, and I find his advice excellent for a variety of 986 matters.

Good luck.

yes i've read and researched but all of the videos and posts i've seen have not discussed the subject from the standpoint of correct positioning of the cover rods when they are detached from the transmission...

Have you considered putting things together to the best of your ability (the legwork) and taking it to a Top shop to conclude the repair?

In the alternative... if you come across the fix... please share. I'll be atending to my top this fall/winter.

Good luck with the fix!

By the way... you live in city/state?

the widely available Boxster repair manual is for earlier models which have a different transmission for the top.
