2004 986 Boxster S window drop when door opens
When the doors are opened the window drops automatically about a 1/4" or so to relieve the vacuum break so the top doesn't get battered with the suction in the process- great engineering feature as long as it works. It also happens I think when the top is being put up to avoid getting jammed outside the window track in the top.
My problem is the passenger side stopped working. The window will go up and down but the slight automatic drop that I described is the problem. It is obviously an electrical issue- perhaps a relay? Thanks for any ideas/suggestions. |

Window drops to clear roof pocket so door will open or close without interference. Window raises into roof pocket to provide a weather seal. This drop is part of the window motor mechanism and also depends on the regulator cables not being stretched.
With a 2004 you should plan for both regulator and motor replacement. Good Luck |

Try both the inside and outside door handles. Does it drop with one, but not the other? That would point to one of the two micro switches (one in the interior door handle, the other in the door latch assembly). The other likely candidate is another micro switch in the door latch assembly, and that one determines whether the door is open or closed. Likely as not, a replacement latch is in your future. You can pay big bucks for the Porsche part, or pay dramatically less for the identical VW part. Some google-fu will get you the appropriate part numbers.
