06 Cayman - what is the cable in frunk, not hooked up?

06 Cayman S
What is this cable, in the front of the frunk, unattached at either end -- except the forward end has a loop that is looped around the white tubular object in the center of the front, but it obviously is not an active item.
The opposite end exits thru the driver's side wall at the wheelwell area (it does not protrude into the wheelwell).

Is this supposed to be an emergency hood release that is not connected to anything anymore? (Possibly previous owner never reconnected it for some reason?)
Pulling on the cable does nothing, of course.
Thanks.

I believe that you're talking about the emergency release. The end you pull on to "pop" the frunk is located under the driver front wheel liner. Supposedly the front wheel needs to come off and part of the liner to access the end of the cable that needs to be pulled to open the frunk. I hope that's the information that you were looking for.

Neil,
Yah, it would make sense --BUT, shouldn't the front-center end be mechanically hooked up to the latch, and not put around the white plastic tube? I guess I should try to pull the cable to see if anything happens -- but I have reassembled the trunk area so everything is hard to get to. Too many other thangs going on.

I purchased a 2000 Boxster a few months ago and did several autocross events. The issue with Frunk opening only with good battery is a frustration. With a stick shift, I've twice had to ask for a push from those present and pop the clutch AFTER installing a new battery. I suspect an interlock problem somewhere, but have not yet chased.

My Boxster does not have the positive connection in the fuse box introduced sometime in the first run and I've not looked seriously for the cable release. That seems pointless as the jack and lug wrench are in the inaccessible frunk. I saw a YouTube where that appeared to have been relocated to the front of the car. Any experience with that?

It's under the driver side front inner fender liner.
