Boxster Rear Script
 
I'm looking at a 2000 Boxster S to purchase. It does not have the "Boxster S" on the rear deck. I've seen others like this and presumed the owners took them off. I asked the seller about it. He is the original owner and has all the beautiful paperwork to prove it. It only has 14,000 miles on in. He swears that is the way he got it when he first took delivery. I can't believe the Factory sent any out this way. Could the dealers have done this? Is he lying and it had the deck replaced?

If you order the car with the model delete option it does not come with the logo on the the rear trunk. You might want to check and see if all the stickers are in place under the rear trunk lid. Jeff

My Boxster does not have the rear script...I like it that way. I asked the dealer about why it was missing and was told that the original buyer ordered it without...could be a load of BS but I like how clean my rear deck lid looks.

Ditto - I like the look without the script, which looks too dated for such a new car. Porsche should have gone with a new design, imo. What someone at work did is had the numbers 986 made up and mounted them. Looks cool, but he says it generates lots of questions :)

No rear script here either. Dealer said they remove many of them. There was no accident damage or replacement. the car you are looking at is probably fine. Get a PPI from someone else.

The rear script tends to be removed after you start washing the car. The script is the first thing that gets hooked in your cloth. You need to be real carefull when washing. If you do damage the one on the car go to the dealer for replacement. The ones on eBay tend to go for twice what the dealer wants for the same part.

Thanks All! It was the model delete option - even said so on the original invoice that came with. And, may I add, WHAT A CAR! I had a blast driving yesterday and today.

That said, I'm very glad I decided to keep my 911 and get the Boxster S rather than sell my 911 and get a 996.

I may have some questions about engine noise in a separate posting.

What 911 do you have? I'm closing in on the big four-oh this summer and I'd been planning on selling my '83 targa and getting a 993 cab. Since helping a friend shop for a Boxster I've been thinking of keeping my old 911 and getting a 2000 986.

My 911 is a 73.5 911T in very nice original condition, even the original paint, though recently had the engine rebuilt. It has CIS injection similar to yours. Before buying the Boxster S, I did in fact test drive a couple 993s - a targa and a cab, with the idea that perhaps I should go with the "ultimate" in air cooled 911s for a similar price to a Boxster S. But, you know what? While they were great machines, they didn't sing to me like the Boxster S does. And, although they are wildly improved over my 73.5 911, they were still similar enough, but in a heavier feeling way, than my 911, that I wouldn't get one. I must say though that I have tried every form of 911 since my 911 and have always come to the conclusion that I like the lighter, sportier feel of mine to all the ones that came after, that I found fatter and quieter - even if they are all faster, brake quicker and handle better. So, I'm biased, and I'm sure plenty of people disagree with me. That's fine by me. It's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

I was thinking along similar lines. My SC was my first Porsche and after trying the Boxster with my pal in KY it occurred to me that getting a Boxster would let me have the best of both worlds: a "raw" feeling 911 and a more civilized modern Porsche, all for not much more money than a good 993 would run me.
