Brake squeal
Hi Boxster-sters. My 2000 S-model has brake squeal on light application of the brakes. Gos away when pressed harder. My local shop says that's normal for multi-piston brakes with drilled rotors. He says I need to use them like they were designed to be used. Brake late and hard! Does anybody else experience this?

Squaeal is very common. It happens because the brake pads are large and start vibrating in the caliper with light application of the brakes.
Hawk pads and some of the ceramic pads reduce the squeal by quite a bit. AFJuvat

Pelican parts sells dampers that go in the cylinders of the piston and stick to the pad to hold it still. Stops the noise on the 928 so it should work on the Boxster.

Have you recently changed the pads? I wonder, does the "beveling" trick on the leading edge work as it does on the 911?
