Alarm Weirdness

Have yet to figure this one out.

The keyless entry has always been the slowest thing in the world. Sometimes takes up to 30+ seconds of holding the button to get it to unlock/lock the doors. The trunk usually takes longer than that, but eventually pops.

I did put a brand new batter in the key.

It was all working fine except that a couple times over the course of 2 weeks after I got the new top installed, the alarm went off for seemingly no reason. Went out, turned it off, no more problems.

Then a few days ago when I locked it, I got a really sick sounding beep sound out of the horn, and ever since, it doesn't beep when I lock it, nor does it beep if the alarm is triggered.

The horn does work when you hit the button on the steering wheel.

Also, it's gone off for some unknown reason 2-3 more times since the horn quit, so it'll just sit there with the lights flashing.

What are my options?

If I could reset the thing and make it all work right, that'd be great. If not, if I could at least disable the alarm and just use the keyless lock/unlock, that'd be fine too.

Any ideas?

I recently purchased a 2001 Boxster S....and am having major problems with my keyless entry alarm system that goes off intermittently. Presently, it is at the dealership in San Antonio, Texas..where they have not pin pointed the cause after charging $118.00 an hour for labor..and are now going on several hours without being sure. Their latest attempt is to replace the immobilizer + remotes. Help!!

Frustrated..

Have you resolved your problem??

Nope, I still have problems with it.

I've just started using the key to double-lock the doors.

The first time locks, the second disables the alarm.

I rarely even bother with the remote anymore, it takes sometimes up to a minute of holding the button to pop it unlocked, and even then, the range sucks and it's just faster to use the key. New battery for the remote didn't help that part at all.

I haven't had the $$ to take mine to a shop and let them just poke for hours, so I haven't got to that point yet.

My 2001 is pretty much the same, horn sound died, but the lock function works, lights flash, range sucks (less than 10 feet). Front or rear hatch take for ever if they open at all. I've skimmed the Bently manual having found anything yet. WOuld appreciate it if you would post solutions

Hi Mike,

I ended up taking my Porsche to the dealership in San Antonio, Texas...they put in a new immobilizer and programmed the remote..which appears to have taken care of the problem. I am noticing that intermittently the remote does not engage the hatches, and this morning the remote would not engage the lock..so I called the dealership... they said to insert the key in the keyhole when this happens because this will reset the alarm..I did and it works, for now..if this symptom continues, I will take it back to the dealership. Hope this helps you..

Thanks Bobbie,

Tried the key locking/unlocking the door. No change. As long as the lights flash and it locks the car, guess I'll put up with it.

Just a minor irritation ;-]
