Gas smell inside cabin
Hello Guys:
Just bought a mint Lapiz Blue '99 Boxster with only 6138 miles from a doctor that only used it occasionally (10 miles round trip at most). Well maintained at the local Porsche dealer always garaged. Love it! Only had a couple of problems. 1. The steering column adjustment was stuck (fixed that real quick with WD40, an open 3/8 wrench, and a hammer to force the locking pin unstuck). 2. When I start up the car, there is a brief gasoline smell coming into the cabin if I do not have the air recycle on. There is no leaks on the ground or underneath the vehicle. I know that there was a recall for this model year in regards to the gas cap seal. The dealer said that they cannot honor that recall since the window expired. The Porsche recall/article is #WX02099 Fuel Filler Cap Seal. Does anybody knows if this involves a replacement of the cap or just the seal? If it involves replacement for the cap, what years are compatible with my 99 and Where can I find one? Thanks beforehand,

It is an emissions recall A209. They are bound to honor it. Call 1-800-Porsche and complain.
It was a poor seal on the fuel filler cap. There is an updated fuel cap available that is changed as part of A209. If that does not correct the problem. You may have to check the fuel tank bent hoses. AFJ
