986 Water Pump! OUCH.

Well my '04 986 w/51K miles just upchucked the water pump. Anyone else w/similar mileage &/or age suffered this fate. And wouldn't you know...when the factory says four years / 50K miles warranty .... they mean it, not 51K miles. I'm quietly pissed off.

This must be a rare event; I've not heard of this being a problem on our cars. Let's hope the experts chime in on this. My '02S has 11k miles, so I guess I don't need to worry for another 15 years.

The water pumps are a crap shoot.

I've replaced them at 60K miles, and I replaced them at 120K miles.

I've also replaced a pump on a car three times in three days because the pumps were bad out of the box.

I would gripe to the service manager at the dealer about this one - if you yell loud enough, they may just fix it for you.

I have a '99 Carrera and had to replace the water pump and Oxygen sensors at 50K almost on the nose. It wasn't cheap. I just bought an '03 Boxster with 36K and expect to do the same at 50K.

On the other hand I used to have an '82 911SC and with 120K miles I never had to replace the water pump.
