Need advice: Expected big ticket costs on an 80k mi 2001 Boxster
Hey folks.
Am trying to get in the "club" and do some driver education events. I have the opportunity to buy a 2001 Boxster for around $10k. Car has had two owners who only commuted in it - no track days. Problem is it has 80k mi. and I'm usually not comfy buying a car with so many miles. I'm wondering what are typical big-ticket things I can expect might break down as the car gets older (post 80k mi) Thoughts? |

Hi there. That's a bit of a broad question, there are some issues that may happen with the engine, look here for an overview:
Pelican Technical Article: Common Engine Problems and Failures - 986 Boxster (1997-04) - 987 Boxster (2005-08) As for other stuff that might break, it depends upon whether you're doing the work yourself. If you are a DIY person, then everything should be relatively easily fixable. You might want to look over the tech articles list for some ideas of what might go wrong: Pelican Parts - Porsche Boxster 986 / 987 and Carrera 996 / 987 Technical Articles 80K miles isn't that terrible, I would make sure they had very frequent oil changes... -Wayne
