Question on Boxster Radio Install

Hi. The radio on my 2001 Boxster S works fine when the ignition is on but engine not running. When the engine is fired up the radio immediately stopes working. When the engine is running the screen remains illuminated but is not responsive to controls. The sat nav continues to work.
Any ideas? Thanks v much in advance.

COuld be an issue with the alternator. I would check charging system voltage and A/C output. If something is skewed, the radio may shut down to conserve.
