E-brake button question...
Is the e-brake button screwed on like the 914 ? I want to remove it for painting and possible replacement. Is the threading known if I hae one made ?

I'm not sure, I've never had one apart. I think the whole assembly is sold as one-piece, unlike on the 914...

The unit is sold as a complete, these items are not intended to be removed and replaced. BTW, if you are looking keep in mind you can inter swap the 986/996 items. You can find them on ebay all day long, usually starting at $50 and up...
