Going to attempt to tackle IMS retrofit and RMS replacement - what to order?
 

Hey,

So I know now there's a leak from the bellhousing. Not a big one as I have no oil on the floor but I'm assuming it's piling up in the under tray.. There's no guarantee it's the IMS and the oil changes I have done I've never seen any metal residue in the oil or the filter but the fear is getting to me and I've decided that I'm going to try an attempt this project in my garage as spending over $2000 in labor just seems insane to me.

My car only has 30k miles on it and had been driven gently by the previous owner, I'm thinking I may as well do the clutch while I'm in there but skip the flywheel.. Is this alright?

I am planning (obviously) to order all required parts from Pelican but need a detailed list of everything I'll need..

Considering my mechanical knowledge is limited, I would love for any others who have complete the project or know better than I to add to my list and offer any advice you feel may be helpful..

I know there's a lot of information regarding this process online but it's all over the place.

Right on, been doing all the minor maintenance on mine, still trying to build,the confidence to,do ims myself. Is a alot in labor, and my mech I think is givin me a deal, $2,200 parts labor and the clutch. Would rather spend that on rims. Let us know how it goes, just might do mine,

I did mine in my garage a little over a year ago. It wasn't too bad, I gotta admit I was pretty apprehensive though. Some things I would recommend gettting / using:

- Transmission Adapter for 3.5 ton floor jack from Harbor Freight (item # 95640)
- High / Tall Jack Stands from Harbor freight to allow for rear clearance:
6 Ton Jack Stand Set
- Triple Square adapter for one of the Transmission to motor bolts, bought one like this on ebay:

Drew, I think the price your mech. gave you is good considering some of these parts alone are expensive. Just take a look at the price of the bearing alone!

Tawheed how are you? I'm sorry for leading you astray on the exhaust but did not know you wanted a virtual mufflerless pipe.
Anyway it's OK to not want to replace the flywheel but keep it in your budget because you have no way of knowing if it is in good working order until you get the trans out. You might want to consider the RMS install tool as well, without it you might have trouble. why do you need engine crankcase bolts? does the clutch kit come with the pressure plate bolts?
As far as the IMS install just take your time there should be an instruction sheet in the kit, if you follow that you will be ok. I you get into it and get confused please send me a pm with you phone number and I will call you to help out.

Don't forget a supply of your favorite beverage. So you can celebrate your success. I'd luv to see pic's of this being done while the engine is still in the car. All of what I have seen is with the engine removed. I'd like to get an idea of what it looks like doing it this way.

The LN retrofit kit comes with the IMS flange bolts already. No need for extra hardware! A great weekend project. :)
