Door Locking & Lighting problems
Hi there, I just bought a 2001 Boxster for the wife.
All in all the car is in good condition but it has a few problems that I hope someone here can help. Problem one: When I open and close the drivers door the window SOMETIMES the window moves down to allow clearance from the seal. But when it doesn't go down automatically when opening the door, the window gets stuck on the seal and i have to manually down the window. I did notice that the door catch control this action. It is almost like the car doesn't know if the door is open or not. Resulting in unable to lock the car. Problem two: Passenger side headlight unit: white sidelight does not work, low beam works, hi beam does not work and the fog light is very very dim. I removed the headlight unit and checked all the bulbs and they where all good. If anyone could help me with these two problems it would help me keep the wife happy

Problem #1 is caused by a faulty microswitch either in the door handle or the door lock mechanism (most likely the door lock mechanism). There are a bunch of threads on this, and you can also find the replacement procedure here: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Door Lock Mechanism / Boxster Door Handle - 986 / 987
Problem #2: I would go through the connector and check the voltages, and also check the grounds on the connector. It really does sound like a common ground that is faulty. Welcome, and hope this helps, Wayne

Thanks for the info.
What/where is the best place to get a complete wiring diagram for the 2001 Boxster? |

My 01 Boxster had a similar problem with the passenger window "missing" the track when the door was opened and closed.
Prior to purchase, I had the dealer get that issue fixed. When I when to the Porsche dealer (a day that shall live in infamy in this forum), the Porsche dealer found that they had done the work, which to cut to the chase cost the dealer that sold me the Boxster, $600. So buy and use your Wayne book wisely. The dealer explanation was that there are up to four different microswitches that have to checked and coordinated to make the window "hit the track". |
