Clutch recommendations
Hi. First post in the Boxster forum. I actually have a Ruf 3600S. Boxster S tranny and 3.6ltr 996 engine with X51 package, etc. The clutch is on the way out. Ruf thinks that I have a standard 996 clutch and dual mass flywheel. The clutch has always felt heavy to me. Brand new it was much heavier than a 944, a '93 BMW M5, or even an '83 911SC.
What clutch / flywheel combo will hold up to ~400hp and maybe give me a lighter feel than before? Thanks, Richard

You don't have many options on going "softer". You can run a puck racing clutch and that will get heavier. You do probably have a 996 clutch in there, *or* someone may have put in a higher performance package along the way. I would try the stock 996 setup (it should work with that engine and tranny combo) and see if that improves your ride.

I bought the car new straight from Ruf in Germany but their record-keeping or maybe willingness to share the records is very limited. The clutch has always been heavy.
Is there maybe a different clutch master cylinder that I can switch to. I believe I'm stuck with the slave cylinder that comes with the tranny. Thanks for all your help. |
