Spark Plug Change....Oil?

Changed the plugs today one of the Spark Plug Socket Connectors had a lot of oil in and around it.

What could cause this?

Wayne...I just ordered a set of six connectors from you....seems that some of them were falling apart!

John, if your coil ends are so oil soaked they are deteriorating, most likely your plug tube or tubes are leaking. They are easy to replace...might be hard to get the old brittle tubes out unscathed if you want to just reseal them.

Ordered tubes with o rings. Hopefully this clears it all up.

Might get your self an expanding drain plug like they use on boats. Put it in the hole and tighten. Attach a short length of wire or cord if needed and you will get the tubes out much easier. Did that job at about 75K. You most likely will not need the tubes but thats your call. Good luck.

I purschased a full set of plug tubes and o rings. I removed the tubes, blocked off both ends and applied pressure to them to see if they leaked. As none leaked air, I replaced the orings and drove the car. About two days later I noticed the nbr 4 cylinder was weeping oil. As it had to be the plug tube or a displced seal I replaced the tube and it has not leaked since.
So yes you can replace just the orings, but unless there is a major crack in the plug tube, they are pretty hard to check.
