New Oil Baffle
Hi all,
We are just ramping up production on a new oil baffle that fits M96/97 engines. This is a stainless assembly using metal doors that will not distort or come apart like the factory baffles using rubber doors (including the X51 version). It mounts on any factory pan and the kit comes with bolts, thread locker and LocTite 5900 pan sealant. Contact me with any questions or for more details!

Hi,
I don't know what this is. Will you please explain in more detail what an oil baffle's function is and how it will improve the enginneering on my 2000 S Boxter ? Thanks Rod |

Exactly, takes the place of the plastic oil baffle and does a better job of keeping oil around the pick up under higher g-loads. We will have more of these ready to go next week.

The price on these is $225. Available from EBS Racing/Engine Builders Supply. The first small batch is gone but we will have more finished and ready next week.

Don, looks like a well built product. What is your opinion on using this baffle with the factory pan, vs. using your baffle with a deeper oil sump/pan extension (like that from LN or BK, etc)?
Btw, I was not able to find this product oil your website - reached oil pan and also searched by engine under the 2008 boxster s selection. Thanks! |

Hi,
This baffle is designed for use on any stock pan but not with a spacer or deep sump kit as it would leave a gap at the top sealing surfaces. LN will be using our baffle with a new upcoming product they are developing right now but I would not recommend using with the deep sump. We just introduced this and it has not made it on our site yet but you can contact me direct if you'd like. Also, it will be available from Pelican very soon.

The only thing that concerns me would be the rubber pieces getting loose in the hot oil. I suppose that since the pickups have screens on them it wouldn't make a difference, but I don't really like having things floating around.

Steve, my question is the same as yours....or are those rubber sleeves on there to protect the baffle and then are removed prior to installation? Good question as I agree with you those would be off as soon as they heated up a few times and the baffle cooled enough for them to slide right off into the sump.

The seals are oil and fuel resistant and the way the baffle mounts it's, basically, wedged in such a way against the pan and case that the seals cannot come off. It's a snug fit!

I just got mine and it looks nice. Before I button it up I wanted to double-check something. The stock baffle fits into the pan in a way that seals in about a 1" deep pool of oil, assuming the baffle doors are closed. This baffle has various gaps that seem to allow oil to escape the baffle, so you would never get a potential pool of oil inside, so I wanted to get feedback on that, from EBS or others (LN would be great, since they apparently see good things in the baffle).
Maybe the larger baffle doors counteract those drainage points? Maybe the drainage points are a good thing? Anyway, not bashing or anything, just want to be sure before I close it up and take the car to the track this weekend. Thanks.

Hi,
The Factory X51 has similar gaps as fitted to the pan. Having small gaps at the lowest part of the baffle doesn't counteract the upper baffle's ability to keep the large reservoir of oil from running away from the pickup.

Deep Sump
I'm about to do some major work on my 99 Boxster 64K , was thinking about adding the LN deep sump. Just want to clarify - this WILL NOT work with the deep sump kit?
And LN may be solving that issue in some way? Note, I'm not in a hurry - I'm still collecting tools and getting the garage organized so I can drop the transmission and possibly the engine Need to do the IMS upgrade, New RMS, possibly chain tensioner. Belts, Coolant box (mines fine but close to 14 years old) New clutch (I hope not a new flywheel) etc. So if this is something that might be ready to go by end of year I I'd seriously consider it. |

At this time, there is not a proper spacer engineered to work with any of the deep sump kits. However, this unit does a superior job even compared to the stock plastic baffle used with a deep sump kit. LN will be using this baffle with a new product coming soon!

Ok Don, I'm having to do this in the next week or so, is the "new product" worth the wait for a spec box application?
thx Jim
