Rear Speakers wire to Amp or Radio Head
Hi All
This is for 2000 porsche boxster with AMP in the front trunk I am trying to find out if I can buy one of those standard wiring harness and wire the rear speakers to radio head or I should wire to AMP. Any information on this will make my life that much easier, Thanks Ganesh |

I think the "official" way to do this is to plug the rear speakers to the back of the radio
The door and dash speakers are driven by the amp so you still have the output at the back of the radio available. If you don't have the plug, you can get it from Becker USA.

I would expect your car to have a 4 channel amp in the front trunk. If that is the case, two channels drive the dash speakers and two drive the door speakers. You would not have the option of hooking up the rear speakers to the four channel amp.
I bought a 6-channel amp from a 911 cabriolet. That gave me the option of hooking up the rear speakers to an amp. They sound slightly better run off the amp than from the head unit, but it is not a huge improvement. The cost was negligible (I think I paid $40 for the 6 channel amp) so it was worth it to me. A better investment is to improve the dash speakers. Good luck |

Agreed, sound from the 6-channel amp is slightly better but if you buy a 6-channel amp you need a special adapter + cable to tag into the connector at the amp

I have the PNP rear speakers. When I switched from driving the speakers with the head unit to the amp, Harvey sent me the cable free of charge. Great person to do business with.
The connector on the 6 channel amp needs just a small adjustment to fit the cable for the 4 channel amp. You just need to file off a small piece of plastic. |
