camshaft secure tool for 2006 Boxster question

I am looking for a camshaft secure tool on pelican, but got the following message. Does anyone know a camshaft secure tool work for 2006 Boxster?

The manufacturer of the PEL-TOL-P253 Camshaft Securing Tool, Boxster 1997-04, just got back to me. They tell me that no, it will not work with the later vehicles.

Regretfully I am unaware of the correct tool to use for doing so on your 2006 Boxter.


Your best bet would be to post your question upon the Pelican Parts Boxter BBS/Technical forums arrea. There are a lot of knowledgeable guys there who are more that happy to help out a fellow 987 owner. Perhaps some one there can let you know which tool will work for your engine.

What exactly are you trying to do that requires this tool?

I want to safely remove the camshaft, so I can check valve spring.

My next question is Do I really need a camshaft secure tool?

Yes, if you remove the cam cover, you are also removing the upper 1/2 of the cam supports (they are cast into the cam covers, so the cams will try to move:



If the cams are not secured, they will pushed by the loaded valve springs and could end up doing damage.

Does PEL-TOL-P253 Camshaft Securing Tool work for 2006 Porsche boxster? or I'm stuck to make my own tool?

No, it is for the 97-04 cars. I think Baum tools has one for the 06 car, but you would have to check with them.
