Ims question on 2001 boxster s
Looking at purchasing a 2001 boxster s 77k miles for 17k. The maintenance records show at 6780 miles transmission removed to complete repairs. Drive belt tensioner pulley replaced. Rear crankshaft oil seal replaced. Would these repairs indicate an ims failure or other issues. All maintenance records since show no problems with all scheduled maintenance being completed. Thanks for any info you may have

I think if there had been an IMS failure it would have mentioned something like "replaced engine" since a failure more than likely would have KO'd the engine. More likely is that it had a leaky RMS although it's possible that the IMS flange was leaking as well. That price seems a little high to me but I only know my area. At that mileage I would for sure replace the water pump if original and front engine mount if original.

Price way too high. Had a '01S and sold it with 58k on the odometer needing nothing with 100 miles on new PS2s.
The RMS seal they used in the replacement is not one of the newer designs (based on the mileage when done). But no, the description you posted says nothing about the IMS then or now. |

2001 Boxster S
I bought this a year ago for $17,500. I might have got hosed, but she's a beauty, with 67,000 miles!
