oil change puddle
hi guys, just jacked up the car, slightly higher on the back end . changed oil and filter. had about a cup leak by. lying under the car looking up, it appears to have come from where the hose goes thru the trunk to attach to coolant box, no oil ended up in the trunk. replace hose? could this be the source of a vacum leak?

Could be a crack at the joint between the two pieces of the oil filler tube that are in the engine compartment. Or a crack in the accordion of the portion that's against the rear firewall. A small mirror can help you see under that tube as you're looking in from the top.

yup cracked tube
just cut away mesh sleeve, and felt the tube, found it to be cracked at the bellows end close to the trunk bulkhead connection. could this be the vacum leak that was causing me grief? tough connection to get at, are there any superior fixes ?

A cracked oil filler tube does cause a vacuum leak. However, may not be the only leak you have. Only way to tell is replace the tube and see.
Replacing the tube is a pain. It's best to buy the hose clamp tool. I got mine from Sears for $40. I believe it was a Craftsman. There may be others out there that are cheaper. Lots of folks replace the OEM clamps for wormgear type hose clamps. But after you buy the tool, there's really no additional benefit of replacing the OEM clamps. Just personal preference.
