Porsche Locking Problem.

I have a problem with locking my Porsche. When I insert the key in the car to lock it, it only locks the driver side door and not the passenger side door. When I unlock it the car unlocks twice and beeps twice. You can look both of the doors with the button inside but I can't lock it from the outside. Does anybody know how to fix this. By the way, sometimes it does lock both doors from outside with the key but that only rarely happens. It's a 2001 Boxster.:(

You have a defective switch on the drivers door lock assy. It's a micro switch that can be found thru the dealer.

Any idea on how much that will cost?

Switch is not very expensive, buy it from the dealer. The labor is about 1 hour

It sounds like what I just replaced. The locking mechanism, about $240 and a couple hours of your time. Pelican has the part, replace the micro switch at the door handle while you are in there. Good tech article on this project.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the problem lies in the passenger side door. It seems that for some reason, the passenger door locking latch isn't getting the signal to lock or unlock the the door.

As I said in a similar note, a single beep means something isn't closed. A double beep means something is broken. Most likely you're hearing the double beep because the central locking system module sees that the doors aren't synchronized. One is locked and one is unlocked.

It costs about $500 in parts and labor to replace the door latch. If you can have someone diagnose this more deeply - someone with a durmetric cable or a dealer with a Porsche system tester - perhaps you'll know better which part to replace.

Good luck
