Activating OBC with Durametric
I've read in a thread discussing the On Board Computer hack that one can activate the OBC using a Durametric. I have version 6 of the enthusiast cable. Can anyone tell me where I go in the menu to activate the OBC. I've looked and can't find it. Thanks

Durametric technical support told me how to solve the problem. I needed to choose the correct instrument cluster option for my car on the Choose Equipment screen. Because I wasn't doing so, I did not see the instrument cluster diagnostic options on my menu screen. Problem now solved.

I also have the Durametric ver 6.0 and have selected the correct instrument panel. What exactly is the hack supposed to do? Unless you have the stalk on your column how exactly do you navigate to all the features within the OBC? Any details would be appreciated. Pat |

The OBC hack allows you to see additional information on your dashboard. Wayne wrote a good article on this topic.
See: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster On Board Computer (OBC) Upgrade / Boxster Turn Signal Switch Replacement - 986 Boxster (1997-04) - The first paragraph lists the added display features When I use the durametric, it tells me the OBC is enabled, but I don't see the outside temperature on the display. It may only appear after installing the 4 stalk switch or the poor man's hack. I haven't done either. |

Will the Durametric be able to enable the OBC?
My understanding is that only the Porsche factory computer can activate the OBC. I have the enthusiast Durametric and recently installed the four stalk with Wayne's wiring kit but I have not gone to the Porsche dealer to activate it. Can I activate it myself with my Durametric and if so how? My vehicle is a 2001 Boxster S with 74,500 km. on it.

You should find Activations under the Instrument Cluster list on the left of the screen. Unless I am recalling incorrectly, you should be able to activate the OBC there. Make sure you put a check mark right box in the Instrument Cluster section in the second opening screen. I'll check tomorrow and update if I am wrong.

Good news
Yes! I was able to activate my OBC in my 2001 Boxster S from my enthusiast's version of the Durametric. It was easy. Took less than a minute and it gives you an on screen "activation successful" confirmation. I then went on to toggle around with the forth stalk that I installed with my new four stalk steering wheel column and all the computer systems work! Woo Hoo! No trip to Porsche dealer to have the OBC activated! I think this activation alone paid for my Durametric device.
Thanks for project 91 Wayne and the Parts package. |
