I am considering buying a 2000 2.7 L, 5 speed Boxter with 20,000 miles. CARFAX is all OK with gradual mileage progression, but car has had 3 owners, and service records are only available from current owner, back to 2009. Only recent problem is rear seal leak which has been corrected. I can have car checked by Porsche mechanic. In light of engine problems you describe, do you think this is a bad investment? If I buy it should I have IMS upgrade done? Thanks Steve

We recommend the IMS upgrade for your engine. When having the car checked it would be a good idea to check the oil filter for any signs of IMS bearing failure.
